From the first person hired by James Allison in 1915 to the thousands across the globe who work for Allison today, we're driving progress everywhere because we employ top talent worldwide.This is an exciting opportunity in Indianapolis, IN for a Regulatory Compliance Engineering Intern.Learn more about this role and how you can begin driving your career forward!As a Regulatory Compliance Engineering Intern, you will be involved in various aspects of the Allison product certification process as required by the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) government regulations. Common learning areas include the studying and interpretation of government regulations, exhaust emissions testing, and on-vehicle testing of diagnostic algorithms. You will work closely with the assigned supervisor and complete a specific engineering project during the assignment. As an intern with Allison Transmission, Inc., you will be required to commit to a minimum of 10-weeks per assignment.Responsibilities:* Gain knowledge and understanding of the different government regulations (OBD and GHG) that impact Allison hybrid and conventional transmission products.* Participate in various aspects of product certification by working directly with other regulatory compliance engineers at Allison.* Study and understand Allison products, system design, and controls software and their role in the regulatory and certification process.* Participate and contribute to the development and execution of vehicle level validation testing, standardized testing, and other regulatory required testing.* Gain experience and understanding of vehicle exhaust emissions and vehicle emissions testing using Portable Emission Measurement Systems (PEMS).* Study and understand how to execute emissions data post analysis and generate detailed engineering reports.* Work directly with systems engineering team to gain experience with Allison controls diagnostic algorithms and calibrations.* Study existing controls software and diagnostics and create detailed documentation required as part of the regulatory certification.* Learn to use Allison engineering tools such as data-logger, calibration editor, and embedded software programming tools* Other duties as assignedEducation Requirement:* College undergraduate or graduate status with 1-3 years at an accredited college or university, pursing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related fieldKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Required:* No experience requirement - current enrollment in a 4-year engineering program* Demonstrated ability to communicate well in a business setting and across functional areas* Self-starter with strong analytical ability* Familiarity of mechanical and electrical design and analysis tools* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and other technical documentsPreferred:* General knowledge of conventional, hybrid, and pure electric vehicle powertrains including engines and automatic transmissions* Familiarity and knowledge of microprocessor controlled systems and embedded software* Experience in MATLAB/Simulink system modeling software* Experience in the application of fundamental electronic components (basic circuit elements, analog and digital devices, and communication links)* Training or experience with power electronics and battery energy storage systemsAllison Transmission is an equal opportunity employer.
