Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director-High Performance Computing.

The Director, High Performance Computing, under the supervision of the Senior Director, Research IT, and in close collaboration with the Associate Dean, Collaborative Science, and the Director, Institute for Computational Biology, provides support for compute-intensive scientific work at NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC). The Director will work intensively with scientific end users and liaise with other NYU Medical Center IT (MCIT) information, technical, and engineering staff to satisfy requirements. There are currently two full-time positions, one vacant, that will report to the Director. The opportunity exists to make this position a faculty position, should an appropriately qualified individual be selected.

Job Responsibilities:


1. Take responsibility for the operation of high-performance computing (HPC) at NYULMC on a day-to-day basis

2. Work with the Research IT Steering Committee and other advisory groups to plan and document a strategic vision for HPC at NYULMC

3. Work with Research IT, storage, networking and systems teams in MCIT to implement the vision.

4. Supervise a team of two (2) systems administrator/analyst staff.

5. Collaborate with NYULMC scientists on research projects, providing high-performance computing expertise for their projects.

6. Develop and implement reporting and chargeback mechanisms, etc.

7. Represent HPC to the broader NYULMC community.

8. Develop and deliver tutorials and workshops on high performance computing both at the Institutional level and regional and national levels.

9. Give lectures on HPC in the NYULMCs academic programs.

10. Provide mentoring on HPC methods to students and faculty on case-by-case basis.

11. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
The applicant must have at least 10 years experience in the Information Technology field, at least five of which have been in high-performance technical computing, preferably in an organization supporting biomedical science.
The applicant must have excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills.
The applicant must have strong facilitation and communications skills both verbal and written.
The applicant must be a team player that will help create a positive team environment and has the proven ability to work on a variety of projects.
The applicant should have an interest in creating hands-on solutions to computational challenges in the scientific community.

EDUCATION
B.S. or equivalent degree in information services, engineering, science or related field required. Advanced degree in science/computer science/engineering is desirable.
