Job Number: R0071517 Strategic Communications Specialist, Mid
Key Role: Support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by applying technical and administrative expertise to assisting with internal and external communications, media inquiries, Congressional visits, community engagements, group visits to the facility, and coordinating public affairs-type activities which are integral to developing and maintaining a robust and trusted community relationship. Maintain knowledge of the plans and accomplishments related to the client's mission and its operations and liaise with other government counterparts and other public and private entities. Serve as an integral member of the incident management team as a public affairs specialist and assist federal staff with writing messages for broad communications and other documents, including award nominations. Lead and coordinate a variety of internal communications initiatives to keep staff engaged and informed and aid in initiatives for the morale and well-being of staff and coordinate the responses to regular and ad hoc requests for information related to the client's mission and its operations. Plan, design, and execute a comprehensive campaign to convey accurate information about activities to multiple internal and external stakeholders, including facility employees and the public and establish and maintain relationships with information and public affairs officials as well as general readership newspapers, radio and television stations, non-governmental organizations, and community forums. Develop collateral materials, including fact sheets, news releases, magazine articles, trade papers, internet sites, and press releases. Basic Qualifications: -5+ years of experience with internal and external strategic communications -Ability to coordinate and attend public meetings, media briefings, special press releases or briefings and facility tours, and prepare read-ahead materials for visits, when needed -Ability to prepare and review speeches and presentations, conduct outreach, and attend offsite community meetings -Ability to develop and manage community relations initiatives, including Job Shadow Day, high school classes, such as Advanced Placement Bio tours, or general community tours -Ability to assist management with employee morale and team-building initiatives and present on the client's mission to local community groups -Ability to conduct media and presentation training and coaching primarily for senior government executives in preparation for interviews with media, speeches for conferences, and panel presentations -Ability to obtain a security clearance -BA or BS degree Additional Qualifications: -Experience with strategic communications in a technical or government setting -Ability to provide input on sensitivity reviews of information for public disclosure -Ability to pre-emptively and autonomously draft and propose quality engagement actions to management prior to being asked and in anticipation of future needs and requirements -Ability to increase the quantity, sensitivity, and sophistication of communications requisite to keep multiple stakeholders apprised of client developments -Ability to work will onsite while occasionally working offsite or during non-traditional business hours Clearance:
