Assists the Long Island/NJ SHE Sr. Manager in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety, health and environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable federal (EPA, OSHA, DOT, NRC), state and local environmental, health and safety regulations and applicable Cobham SHE Management Standards at the NY/NJ facilities.
Partners with the SHE Sr. Manager to develop and conduct training in emergency response, hazard communication, noise, hazardous materials training, industrial hygiene, radiation, life safety and other applicable topics. Recommends and implements corrective action where environmental, health and safety hazards exist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Partners the SHE Sr. Manager in planning and managing the safety, health and environmental, programs.
Recognizes, evaluates, recommends and implements policies, procedures and actions to assure awareness of and compliance with all applicable SHE regulations and requirements of the organization.
Partners in reviewing SHE standards promulgated by regulatory authorities.
Partners in audits of SHE programs to identify and control significant loss producing exposure.
Provides necessary reports as directed by the SHE Sr. Manager.
Keeps informed on all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety and environmental regulations.
Develops and provides appropriate SHE training to employees. Also, conducts training in emergency response, hazard communication, noise, hazardous materials training, industrial hygiene, radiation, life safety and other applicable topics.
Partners in development, training and on-going requirements of Emergency Response Team (ERT) and SHE Committees and other committees as required.
Manages the ordering and inventory of medical, safety, and ERT related equipment/supplies for company locations.
Promotes communications programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident and fire prevention, industrial hygiene, chemical handling and environmental compliance and other programs, such as HAZWOPER, noise and radiation.
May handle hazardous waste.
Requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Maintaining confidentiality is a must.
Assists in on-going coordination with Facilities, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Materials and others to ensure compliance with SHE requirements.
Partners the SHE Sr. Manager with regulatory groups, first responders, community groups and contractors including, New Jersey State Government, OSHA, EPA, local fire departments.
Assist SHE Sr. Manger for updating SDS's and database.
Weekly inspections of hazardous waste areas, including disposing of hazardous waste. Set up lab packs of spent chemicals as required. Conducts daily, weekly, monthly checks of different areas within facility.
Coordinates Adult CPR with AED and Standard First Aid to the ERT and other employees as needed.
Makes presentations to employees and other groups on SHE topics.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must have strong leadership skills and coaching abilities. Managing change to effective make a positive impact for the organization and employees.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule and weekends when needed.
Must foster a team environment to manage change in the workplace.
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience and a working knowledge of general environmental, health and safety is required.
2-5 years' experience in a safety position.
Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
Must be PC literate, knowledgeable of applicable software programs, such as Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience in an industry with regulatory requirements and high quality standards.
Strong communication and presentation skills in a distributed organization.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is desired.
Experience in working within an Environmental Management System (ISO 9100) is a benefit.
