Scope of Position:
In this role, you will provide process engineering support to support rapid development of new products, product optimization, and efficiency projects with the Corning Life Sciences Division Engineering Surface Modification and Chemistry process group. We look for you to scale-up and transfer of processes for volume manufacturing by implementing standard methodologies and actively resolving issues. You will transfer high quality, stable processes and products to manufacturing that can be cost effectively applied, tested, shipped, and supported.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Division level position responsible for providing technical expertise and support for project work focused on transition of surfaces, interfaces, and chemistry technology/processes.
Work collaboratively across project teams as assigned and assist in supporting division level process as well as strategic initiatives.
Use engineering first principles, data analysis, and problem-solving tools to solve problems, fix production issues, drive continuous improvement, as well as, discover and address problems which can impact product reliability.
Design process experiments to determine and optimize important process variables and product parameters. Assist in the identification and resolution of product quality issues.
Maintain and develop process documentation collecting standard methodologies.
Assist in tasks (training of operators, documentation, measurement capability analysis, transfer to manufacturing checklist activities, and quality plan) to transfer processes from development to manufacturing.
25% up to 50% depending upon project work.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
Standard business hours, 40+, Monday - Friday
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Materials, Chemical, Polymers, or biomedical), Chemistry, or equivalent in technical field.
Required Years and Area of Experience:
Minimum 5+ years in a manufacturing chemical, coatings, or materials processes or in transfer of technology from development to manufacturing.
Ability to grasp technical details and understand the requirements to execute a successful process.
Fundamental knowledge of surface, material, chemistry, and interface knowledge.
Statistical understanding and demonstrated skills.
Computer Skills Excel, Word, Power Point, and Access.
Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
Knowledge of bio-based materials or use of cell culture products.
Experience with chemical processes and materials.
Advanced degree (MS/PhD).
Six-sigma green belt.
Root cause analysis training (KT problem solving).
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Good teamwork skills including knowledge transfer and communication.
