DSM has a vacancy for an Associate Scientist to support our existing products and create new formulations for a variety of medical device applications. This individual willperform synthesis, development, scale-up, testing and/or manufacturing of polymers, medical device materials, products or technologies from idea phase through transfer to running business.
This role will also involve working closely with polymer manufacturing/process equipment and cross-functional teams in addition to performing lab activities. Join our growing team at our Biomedical HQ in Exton, PA.
In the role of Associate Scientist, you will:
+ Assist with product and process development activities for development projects through chemical synthesis and formulation development, and characterization.
+ Assist in establishing Standard Operating Procedures for chemical processes of new products.
+ Develop a fundamental understanding of applicable chemical and application tests by executing DOE's and test protocols required to evaluate parameters of new and existing chemical processes.
+ Assist in the generation of process routers, drawings and other written documentation in accordance with GMP requirements to support commercial manufacturing.
+ Conduct experiments related to evaluating new technologies, polymers, biomaterials for medical implants or devices.
+ Tabulate data and summarize results based on completed experiments and/or tests.
+ Interface with internal supporting groups and labs active in product development, product testing and process development as needed.
+ Author reports and technical documentation based on analysis of data.
+ Effectively communicate test results with Scientists, Project Directors and/or R&D Management.
+ Assist in documentation leading to invention disclosures.
+ Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and accord records according to GLP guidelines.
What we want to see in you:
+ BS/BA in Engineering Sciences, Technology or equivalent (Material Science, Chemical/Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomaterials).
+ Starting MS or BS/BA with several (2+) years of experience in polymer product/process/application development engineering (e.g., material synthesis & purification, material processing & characterization, manufacturing protocol development).
+ Familiarity with operation of process engineering equipment. Polyurethane experience preferred.
+ Skills to work in multi-disciplinary, Quality Systems governed working environment.
+ Self-starting and responsible work attitude with a strong drive for results.
+ Supportive and effective contributor to group efforts, actively seeking to assist team members in accomplishing tasks.
