Job Purpose:

The Translational Research group within the Immuno-Oncology and Combination Research Unit (IOC RU) at GSK is seeking an industry experienced, interactive Scientific Leader with deep scientific knowledge and industry experience in immunology/immunotherapies for Cancer. The individual will manage a small group of biologists to investigate translational biology to support early drug discover efforts as well as pre-clinical immune biomarker support for late stage pre-clinical therapeutic programs. The individual will have the ability to effectively manage and develop people and contribute consideration of new technologies and platforms to support help address biology questions to support the IOC RU pipeline. The successful candidate will focus on delivering on critical milestones to support GSKs growing pipeline of cancer immunotherapies in a fast-paced environment with a focus to provide scientific, translational and management strength to the IOC portfolio.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD with 5-10 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience or combined 5-10 years of post-PhD experience including research in academia/industry in Immunology/Immuno-Oncology (IO), with a strong publication record
  • Industry experience in overseeing human and murine biomarker investigation, translational research specifically in immunology and/or immuno-oncology
  • Provide scientific leadership to guide and mentor junior scientists Has demonstrated flexibility to work in the lab.
  • Proven ability to function collaboratively in multi-disciplinary matrix groups with colleagues from within Oncology and other GSK groups to mature biomarker strategies and potential combinations for Immuno-Oncology.
  • Proven people manager with excellent organizational, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to scrutinize, understand and communicate scientific and clinical data to peers and senior management
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external stake holders, senior management, external CROs and investigators for the development of immunotherapies
  • Must have a good balance between creativity and flexibility in a team environment, and be a fair, strong and collaborative team player
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Ability to drive, influence and oversee IO therapeutic projects as matrix leader with an emphasis on translational research, development of biomarkers of response/resistance to a therapy from Candidate Selection to C2MD and related patient selection biomarkers.
  • Recent hands on experience in immunology/immune-oncology assays.
  • Experience with initiating and managing external scientific collaborations with KOLs and in Immuno-Oncology
  • Demonstrated ability to represent GSK effectively at scientific presentations to and negotiations with external organizations
