We are seeking a highly-motivated scientist to fill a molecular biology laboratory position in the Protein, Cell, & Structural Sciences Department within the Medicinal Science & Technology division of R&D located in Upper Providence, PA. The primary responsibility of the department is to design, generate and validate biological reagents for discovery activities across all of GSKs therapeutic modalities. The department also provides the structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition, and mode of action to deliver the best molecule.

The successful candidate will be responsible for theconceptual design andgeneration of protein and cellular reagents for use in GSKs small molecule drug discovery platforms. Automation, data science and in silico protein design skills are all desirable, as GSKs future molecular biology strategy must enable high throughput protein expression platforms. This scientist will have the opportunity to work on targets in multiple therapeutic areas. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a matrix team environment to enable optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard
  • Independently execute laboratory experiments and/or advanced data analysis, integration and interpretation with an emphasis on providing appropriate context for data and experiments in the progress of programs and/or platforms
  • Design and generate protein constructs for expression in bacterial, fungal, insect, mammalian systems, and cell-free systems
  • Work closely to enable external partners to generate biological reagents to support GSK discovery programs.
  • Enable high throughput protein expression platforms by contributing protein design, molecular biology, and bioinformatic skills.
  • Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practice

    Basic Qualifications:

    We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelors degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g. molecular biology, cellular biology, immunology) with at least 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience, or a Masters with at least 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates should have strong track-record in either one or more of the following disciplines: Molecular Biology, Protein Expression/Purification, Protein Design?:

  • Expertise in protein construct design and generation, including reagents for gene editing and functional genomic campaigns
  • Support reagent production timeline goals of generating fit-for-purpose reagents for assays, ASMS, ELT, x-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, biophysics, and enzymology
  • Practical knowledge of automation in molecular biology/cell biology
  • Protein design and/or bioinformatic experience
  • Practical knowledge of gene synthesis, library construct design, and DNA sequencing
  • Ability to plan and execute multiple tasks concurrently and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate
  • Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change
