Position Description

The General Labor Food Service is responsible for wrapping, boxing and palletizing of cheese blocks and shredded cheese. In addition, the Laborer will keep the packaging side of the room neat/clean as needed throughout the production day. The Laborer is also responsible for verifying bag labels/code date information from production schedules.


  • Oversee boxing, labeling, and palletizing of shredded cheese product.
  • Load production line with appropriate supplies as needed.
  • Operate packaging equipment, labelers and check weighers.
  • Ensure accurate labels and weights of product, add code date information.
  • Maintain accurate production records.
  • Ensure package integrity by doing hourly dip checks.
  • Gather supplies as needed.
  • Palletize cheese and transport items using a forklift.
  • Change box label material and pull up orders from Matrix screen.
  • Communicate safety, production, quality and mechanical problems to supervisor.
  • Clean and sanitize all equipment as required.
  • Maintain general housekeeping of work area.
  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

    Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment.
  • Ability to make minor decisions based on standard practices.
  • Ability to read, prepare, and comprehend production reports and comprehend production schedules.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to communicate with line personnel regarding information regarding quality and safety issues.
  • Ability to work overtime or weekends as needed with little or no notice.

    Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Ability to promote teamwork and function within the framework of the team.
  • MES experience.

    Working Conditions

  • Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-70 degrees F.
  • Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses are required.
  • Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-overhead and pushing/pulling/carrying.
  • Ability to constantly stand, walk, bend, flex, extend, twist neck and back; frequently grip, reach, lift, pull with L/R hands.
  • Handle weights up to 60 lbs.
