Position Overview Our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program helps veterans and veteran families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing a range of services that promote housing stability. As Benefits Specialist with SSVF, youll be responsible for helping program participants apply for eligible benefits and entitlements including VA, Public Assistance, Social Security benefits, etc. Specific responsibilities will include: Assisting program participants in filing applications for access to benefits, escorting participants to agency/community offices, and tracking participant benefit applications. Keeping abreast of changes to benefit program regulations and eligibility. Coordinating with the program team to screen and assess program participants for eligible benefits and matching participants with appropriate benefits for income and housing stability. Participating in case conferences and completing all required reports to document services provided. Requirements Bachelors degree in social work or a related field required Relevant social service work experience and a thorough understanding of benefits and entitlements systems. SOAR certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by the homeless veteran population and supportive services available to successfully achieve the goal of permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications. EOE. A Drug Free Workplace.
