Job Title: Associate Director, Transportation
Reports to: Director, Logistics
The Associate Director, Global Transportation directs and controls sourcing, selection, contracts and KPI performance of our global transportation partners. They establish global procedures, policies and leverage best practices across sites. They optimize transportation lanes, design and drive process improvements, leveraging lean manufacturing principles. They drive system and tool sourcing and selection decisions, staying atop of new and developing technologies.
Key Responsibilities Establish strategic directions and goals for global transportation partners and internal stakeholders to meet customer requirements Collaborate & innovate with Customers, Commercial Ops, Supply Chain, Quality and Trade Compliance to design, develop and implement transportation lanes & policies to meet stakeholder requirements and expectations Identify and implement new technologies and systems to improve our transportation lanes Build and develop a highly effective & engaged team Setup & manage transportation operations in developing markets, as required Lead efforts to drive continuous improvement in Order to Delivery process driving high customer satisfaction & lowering operating costs Lead efforts to improve and maintain on time delivery in excess of 98% Identify and implement cost savings projects Ensure local/regional work instructions are in place and effective Ensure that the Transportation organization is compliant with the Quality Management System, Good Manufacturing/Distribution Principles & ISO 13485.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge: Extensive knowledge/experience in designing, developing, implementing and managing global transportation lanesComprehensive knowledge of Logistics, domestic and international, modes, practices and policiesComprehensive knowledge of WMS, TMS and GTM systems and best practicesStrong knowledge & experience of medical device regulations as applied to logisticsStrong knowledge & experience with Cold Chain controlsStrong knowledge of Trade Compliance RegulationsStrong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement PrinciplesStrong knowledge of business systems, data management and Microsoft officeStrong knowledge of ISO 13485 and GMP/GDP systems, applications and policiesStrong Knowledge of Mircosoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word & Outlook)Familiarity & understanding of SAP ERP, WMS, GTS and Processweaver Skills: Uses an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness to develop and/or apply highly advanced concepts, principles, standards, or techniques to solve challenging business problemsAbility to develop, review & negotiate transportation contractsAbility to lead & develop a diverse team in a fast paced environmentAbility to exercise sound judgement within established guidelinesAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in written format in English Education Bachelors degree in Supply Chain or Business; MBA preferred Experience 10-12 years of experience with supply chain, transportation, Logistics or related function requiredPrevious experience in Life Sciences organization with focus on research and diagnostics preferred Other Willing & able to travel to various Illumina, transportation and customer locations, domestically and internationallyWilling to work as necessary to achieve defined goals and objectives
