OverviewThe Assistant Provost serves as the Chief Student Affairs Officer for the New York campuses, reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Assistant Provost is the Dean of Students, Director of Military and Veterans Affairs, Executive Director of Student Professional Development, Senior Director of Experiential Education, and Director of International Education.The Assistant Provost is responsible for developing and leading a bold and strategic outlook that informs a compelling action plan to transform student development and engagement, aligns with institutional priorities, and clearly embraces the unique NYIT student body and the realities of their lives. The incumbent will be a bridge builder and be expected to form relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues to optimize seamless student experiences that foster personal, career, and academic successes. The Assistant Provost will connect with alumni and community leaders to build new and refine existing meaningful opportunities for NYIT students with external partners such as industry (from small businesses to large corporations), government, the non-profit sector, and other community organizations.ResponsibilitiesServes as the Chief Student Affairs Officer for the New York campuses, championing NYITs goal to be a student-centered institution that creates culture change, promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship, and promotes personal and professional student growth and development;Convenes the Student Engagement and Development Leadership Team, creates and advances the strategic goals of the unit, including serving as an advisor to the Provost on issues related to student engagement and development, and consults with other institutional leaders on policies, practices, and plans for the institution;Maintains high-level visibility to students, staff, and faculty on both NY campuses at NYIT-sponsoring on- and off-campus events and programs;Manages and coordinates institutional responses to concerns and issues related to the overall student experience, in consultation with direct reports and other campus leaders;Leads initiatives that drive campus change, contributing to processes for ongoing accreditation, institutional compliance, and strategic planning at the institutional level;Works closely with academic partners, faculty and staff across multiple units in the Institute, and with student affairs professional staff on both NY campuses to enhance the NYIT experience through shared and effective programs, services, resources, and initiatives;Develops and enhances business and auxiliary opportunities for the university;Serves as the institutional liaison for the NYIT Bookstore, managing the relationship with the Bookstore Manager and the integration of the bookstore into institutional culture; andServes as the Appeals Officer for student Title IX cases.QualificationsSubstantial and proven record of broad, progressive and substantive senior level administrative management and leadership experience in higher education, especially in Student Affairs, over a period of at least 10-12 years;Demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of equity, diversity and inclusion within a diverse student population as well as with a range of professional staff, faculty, families, senior administrative colleagues, other university constituents, and external organizations;Full time experience supervising professional staff for a minimum of 7 years;Earned doctoral degree in an appropriate and relevant discipline or field preferably higher education administration or student personnel;Capacity to use student information systems to develop and improve the student experience and retention rate;Ability to articulate student views to the academic community, understand and appreciate the student culture, and advocate strongly for resources to support the student experience; andExperience in building and leading programs that anticipate and address moral, social, and psychological concerns of a diverse student body, familiarity with residence life programs, and other Student Affairs functions.Screening of complete applications will begin immediately and continue until the completion of the search process.
