Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Project Coordinator.

In this role, the successful candidate We are leading an initiative to increase school readiness among children and their families in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. We are seeking a Project Coordinator to coordinate the community engagement aspect of this initiative, with the ultimate goal of enhancing and improving childrens development and family functioning. This would include working with the Project Manager to plan tabling events in the community, develop networks of parents and informal (unlicensed) caregivers, and work with a team to develop programing to meet the needs of parents, informal caregivers and licensed daycares. The initiative is in an early stage of development so opportunity exists for involvement in strategic planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation, and data collection strategies and protocols. The initiative is based in the Department of Population Health in the NYU School of Medicine and advised by a core team of senior faculty in the department as well as the Vice President for Community programming in the Family Support Center at NYU Langone Brooklyn. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in community engagement, community-based program implementation, project management including oversight of research and program staff, and data collection with young children and their families; knowledge of programs and services for children and families is essential. Sunset Park is a diverse community with large numbers of immigrants from China and Latin America. Given the large immigrant population in Sunset Park, fluency in Spanish or Mandarin is preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Project Support: Work with the Project Manager to develop networks of parents and caregivers in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
  • Project Coordination: Coordination of the project while working with internal and external parties to organize and coordinate all aspects of the project. Track progress and completion of data collection; provide supervision to data collectors, clerical and data entry support staff.
  • Engage with families and caregivers in Sunset Park to identify caregiving needs and mechanisms for service/resource delivery.
  • Research Activities: Serve as a member of project teams involved in one or more aspects of engaging sites, site development, data collection, and analyses.
  • Reports: Coordinate and prepare weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly management and status reports for senior leadership and team
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: Project management, program evaluation with vulnerable populations, early childhood education and development, parent-child interaction and family processes, and services for children and families. The successful candidate should be detail-oriented and highly motivated. The candidate should have strong communication skills, data management skills, and organizational skills. Prior experience working with immigrant families in Mandarin or Spanish, and speaking/reading fluency in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration or related field. Two years of experience coordinating Project/Programs or programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure. Ability to Project/Program manage and to multi task while paying attention to details.
