Summary :

Thermo Electron (Materials Characterization Division), a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, provides integrated solutions, instrument, and enterprise services to our customers. This Field Service Engineer is responsible for managing all aspects of field service support and customer relationship management. The successful candidate will provide complete services on Extrusion, Rheological, or PCR systems, including installation, repairs, preventative maintenance, and instrument qualifications. Our ideal candidate will be customer oriented, an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific in customer laboratories, work sites, and be eager to drive growth. The Service Engineer will also coordinate resources and work with the Service, Support, and Sales Teams to deliver technical expertise to customers with high-quality results to ensure customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, qualification, and validation of Extrusion and Rheology equipment systems.
  • Analyze complex business problems to be solved with automated systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements.
  • Configure and execute system settings and options; plans unit integration and site acceptance testing, IQ/OQ certification, CFR Certification, FAT testing, and creates specifications for systems to meet business requirements.
  • Track service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete job tasks using a customer management software.
  • Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and other field representatives, and inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to determine nature and scope of problem.
  • Analyzes review and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
  • Coordinates problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
  • Analyzes reports of technical problems to determine trends affecting future design, production, service, and maintenance processes, and recommends modifications to eliminate future problems.
  • Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.
  • Develops and mentors new engineers in accordance with our training policies.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to establish good customer rapport are essential.

  • Provide Service Training on site for new Service Products.
  • Contributes to the overall Service Targets with respect to Bookings, Revenues, Service Profit and Overhead Cost while following all internal rules, processes and practices (as they are described)

  • Strong Problem solving skills.
  • Minimum Requirements/Qualifications :

  • AS degree in Electronics or equivalent experience. Military electronics or mechanical training a plus.
  • 5+ years Field Service or relevant Industry experience.
  • Ability to work independently within a customer location without supervision.
  • At least 60% travel domestic, with occasional international travel.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or outside regular business hours, and/or on-call work.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and occasionally move 75+ pounds.
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Project), Concur, Salesforce, or other related software.
  • Must live within 1 hour of major US airport.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic systems.
  • Hands on experience with Polymer industry, Extrusion, Rheology, or PCR equipment a plus.
