The incumbent will be a research scientist experienced in infectious disease research with knowledge of serotype epidemiology, disease mechanisms and vaccine strategies. A proven track record of peer reviewed publications and experience in presentation is essential. In addition to high technical competence, the individual in this position understands and can articulate the principles that underlie technology and can provide technical guidance for future assignments. This individual can independently design and carry out a series of studies to solve a problem or evaluate a process/procedure. The incumbent will be required to work in close proximity with project teams, supporting lines and team members to drive the design and logistics for in vivo and in vitro studies. Collaborations across multidisciplinary teams to include Vaccine Research and Development Early Bioprocess, Analytical, Formulation Development (VRD-EBPD), Clinical and Epidemiology, Microbiology and Immunology, and appropriate partner lines. They will be expected to share and present research results in relevant project based meetings and to author appropriate documents.


  • Develop assays or animal models required to support various vaccine projects.
  • Supervise colleagues in design and execution of experiments Animal Study Coordination:Organizing / coordinating animal studies and personnel.
  • Carry out animal procedures required to evaluate the immunogenicity and efficacy of vaccine and study of human pathogen infection and disease.
  • Evaluate responses to vaccine candidates through ELISA, Luminex, ELISpot, multi-parameter flow cytometry, opsonophagocytic, antigenic stimulation proliferation, cytokine production, or any other assays as requested.
  • Analyze data and present experimental results at group meetings, project meetings and department meetings.Write progress report as well as documentation of all work in electronic notebook as required.
  • Compile data and review literature for presentations and publication purposes.
  • Support colleagues in the laboratory by performing routine laboratory duties that can include preparation of media, stocking of reagents, ordering supplies.Work efficiently as part of a team in a matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in proper handling of bacterial isolates and clinical samples; mastery of aseptic technique and familiarity with BSL2 and ABSL2 safety practices for working in the laboratory.
  • Where applicable, perform job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP/GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • PhD. and post- doc in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, or related field required
  • 3+ years of industry or academic experience preferred.
  • Experience in designing infectious disease animal models and in vitro assays required.Experience in determining critical attributes and immunogenicity of vaccine conjugate and proteins is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory methods in cell biology and in vivo assays, ability to work independently, adept at analysis of large datasets and use of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, bioinformatics software, PRISM, PowerPoint and other relevant scientific software, motivated, flexible and willing to learn new skill sets. Ideal candidate will have a proven publication record, honed presentation skills, be a team player, and can accommodate flexible working hours.
