The candidate will be expected to independently develop robust separation or spectroscopic based analytical assays, as well as design, plan and execute qualifications and transfers of these assays that will be used for release and stability studies to support early phase vaccine programs from preclinical into the clinical space. He/She will be expected to provide analytical support for bioprocess and formulation development.


  • Identify key drug substance and drug product attributes for vaccine candidates such as polysaccharide conjugates, proteins or nucleic acids, and contribute to the selection of analytical methodology and techniques to be used.
  • Provide lab based assay development support. The candidate should be familiar with the ICH guidelines for method qualification and would be expected to design, plan, and execute assay development, qualification and transfer studies with a high degree of independence.
  • Establish and utilize new technologies, where required, to enhance our characterization and understanding about the vaccines being developed.
  • The individual will perform routine analysis and should be able to plan and prioritize related assay development and analysis activities
  • The candidate should have the needed writing skills to author and review laboratory methods and reports

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with at least 2 years of academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience or an MS plus 7 years of related work experience is required.
  • A strong background in separation-based analytical techniques and method qualification following ICH guidelines is essential. Experience with applying these methodologies to biomolecules is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency and ability to utilize analytical techniques such as HPLC, CE, and UV-Vis to develop methods to analyze potential vaccine antigens and other vaccine components. Experience with HPAEC-PAD, MALS, and MS is a plus.
  • Experience in vaccine analytical assay development, and a background in carbohydrate structure and chemistry, polysaccharide conjugates, proteins or nucleic acids are considered as a major plus.
  • Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
