ROLE SUMMARY

The Bacterial Vaccine and Technology Group as Pfizer, which reports into the Bacterial Vaccines Chief Scientific Officer is responsible for leading the discovery and scientific leadership for the bacterial vaccines within the Pfizer Vaccine Research and Development Unit (VRDU). The department is comprised of a number of functional groups including include molecular biology, antibody technology, in-vivo biology, bioinformatics, molecular assays and surveillance. These groups work to support all stages of Vaccine Research and Development. We are looking for a motivated individual to join the department where their focus will be to assist with the identification of risk factors for infections and microbial mechanisms of action for causing disease in different populations. The incumbent will be responsible to align the activities to the VRDU goals, working across the VRDU and partner lines.

The incumbent will have responsibilities in both the research and clinical development groups. The candidate will work closely with research and clinical teams to identify risk factors for disease and target populations for teams. Specifically, this will include designing studies to identify the risk factors, disease mechanisms, underling comorbidities of the population, natural history of disease and how each of these components contributes to vaccine development and clinical trial feasibility. Furthermore, the candidate will support the identification of the appropriate research partners for collaborations and conduct of non-interventional studies. The candidate will serve as a point of contact for CT44 across all aspects of the VRDU organization including clinical research, pre-clinical discovery, bacterial, viral, and oncology groups. To ensure alignment between the VRDU and Pfizer Business Units (BUs) the candidate will serve as a liaison between the VRDU and associated BU groups to coordinate strategy and ensure knowledge sharing for candidate vaccines and those in late stage clinical development. This aspect will involve participating on medical and epidemiology committee meetings.

The role requires strong background in infectious disease research and vaccine development. The role also requires experience and established track record in working with multifunctional teams outside of their reporting structure, presenting research and strategy as well as report writing, responding to regulatory questions, and publishing research findings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads strategy for identifying disease mechanisms and vaccine target populations
  • Develops and executes strategy within VRD associated exploring vaccine target populations
  • Partners with lines to design studies to validate vaccines concepts in Phase 0 studies
  • Creates, leads and delivers continuous improvement of the Research process and improves productivity within each phase
  • Provides research expertise to inform Pfizer s vaccine development strategy
  • Accountable to area CSOs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral level degree or equivalent with at least 8 years industry/public health experience
  • Proven track record of project advancement and delivery
  • Experience in vaccines, anti-infective small molecule and biologic therapeutic modalities
  • Strong working knowledge of medical practice, diseases and biology relevant to infectious diseases
  • Experience of providing scientific leadership for projects in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Record of delivery of discipline-relevant data in support of research and development programs
  • Demonstrated innovation and the ability to apply knowledge, techniques and skills
