Vice President Pricing & UnderwritingJob Description

The Vice President of Pricing and Underwriting is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative pricing and go to market strategies, working closely with Primes clients to expand business and create revenue. This role will lead a high performing team of actuaries, underwriters and analysts in the development and maintenance of Primes pricing model, development and maintenance of contract language designed to reflect Primes intentions, and pricing recommendations for all RFPs. This role will be a key influencer and contributor in establishing and implementing a continued aggressive action plan for growth and profitability.

  • Serve as a change agent, developing and implementing innovative strategies that drive revenue for Prime. Transform Primes financial value proposition from price point spreadsheets to risk based and value based risk models, including overall trend guarantees and therapeutic class guarantees

  • Under the direction of the CFO, lead Primes pricing committee to ensure strong strategy and an unyielding competitive approach and demonstrate deep understanding regarding pricing fundamentals and competitive drivers Prime would use to demonstrate its value proposition and win new business

  • Partner with finance, sales, and business leaders to develop, recommend, communicate, sell, and implement competitive pricing strategies.

  • Share financial insights and observations with senior leadership and executives related to risk assessment and overall competitiveness; leverage an in depth understanding of company portfolio, industry trends and market dynamics to influence decisions and encourage senior leaders to embrace competitive strategies.

  • Collaborate legal and other internal stakeholders to develop and negotiate competitive contract language

  • Partner with sales organization and other internal value creation areas, including Network Management, Trade Relations, and Clinical to develop aggressive pricing models with health plan clients to win and retain employer pharmacy business

  • In partnership with product development and marketing, lead the effort to appropriately price and bring to market both full and partial service products to optimize revenue for Prime and our clients

  • Develop and foster a culture of continuous improvement, working with direct reports to provide guidance and direction on appropriate improvements to support future growth

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance or related field

  • 15 years of experience in financial analysis, healthcare, benefits consulting, actuarial and underwriting or financial services field

  • 7 years of experience working with pricing and profitability models

  • 7 years leadership experience

  • Ability to quickly establish trust, respect and credibility and form close working relationships with all levels of an organization, especially senior leadership team

  • Experience in identifying, designing, recommending, and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients complex pharmacy benefit challenges

  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex concepts or situations into concise and compelling communications

  • Proven experience inspiring cross- functional teams to meet business objectives with outstanding results

  • Excellent quantitative, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Actuarial designation (ASA or FSA)

  • Technical background in underwriting and risk adjusted rate setting

  • Strong understanding of pharmacy plan design

  • Exceptional leadership skills

  • Travel up to 20%

  • Constantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, and crouch

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  • Reports to SVP Chief Financial Officer
