As an Equipment Specialist you will serve as a technical advisor for proper operation, care, servicing and repair of building systems and equipment in GSA owned buildings and GSA operated buildings under lease.

As an Equipment Specialist your duties will include:
* Evaluates nationwide policies, programs, and directions for application throughout the Region. Develops and performs assigned projects to improve and validate existing HVAC systems.
* Serves as Regional technical advisor for proper operation, care, servicing, and repair of building systems and equipment in GSA-owned buildings and GSA-operated buildings under lease.
* Assists in conducting an ongoing program for the purpose of evaluating Regional Energy and maintenance management procedures.
* Provides technical advice to the Service Centers should emergencies develop that cause failure in mechanical equipment and/or building support equipment related to building services and maintenance.
* Responsible for performing complete evaluation of operations and maintenance and energy conservation programs within the evaluated Service Center.

* Lift, carry, and/or move objects, which requires moderately heavy physical efforts. You will be required to carry, set up, and work on ladders and/or scaffolding. You will also be subject to noise, minor burns, electric shocks, cuts and bruises, and other injuries. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors. You may be required to undergo a medical examination before you start work because of these conditions.
* Participate in the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), which includes attending meetings and planning activities; and carrying out mission-critical work at a designated location other than your primary work site (which may be outside of your commuting area).

The GS-12 salary range starts at $84,035.00 per year.
If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is:
* The development, application, and interpretation of HVAC systems; equipment inspection; and preventive maintenance programs
* Providing technical guidance on sustainability, energy, and operational issues to improve efficiency;
* The preparation and/or analysis of cost and work measurement reports for building systems.
There is no education substitution for this position. Specialized experience must be met.
