This position is located within the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division, Education, Training and Technical Assistance Bureau. The Standards Industrial Hygienist is a staff level position that provides technical support to the North Carolina Department of Labor, OSH Division, state and local government, and the employers and employees of North Carolina in matters of occupational health and industrial hygiene issues. The position reviews federal OSHA standards and policy documents, and writes and reviews Division policy documents, publications, and training materials. The position answers inquiries from the public and OSH employees and provides interpretations on OSH standards by phone and in writing. The position is also involved in state-specific rulemaking and variance requests. The position provides training (in person and online) to internal staff, employers and employees across the state. The position may be assigned to represent the agency on statewide committees seeking OSH expertise. The position works under the supervision of the Standards Supervisor.
Master's degree in industrial hygiene with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in the field of industrial hygiene; OR Bachelor s degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in the field of industrial hygiene.Supplemental and Contact Information
