McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), Chief in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology.
The selected candidate will contribute to the departments mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through state high-level responsibilities: research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other service.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Chief in the Department Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology will oversee rheumatology clinical services, translational research in rheumatology, input in the fellowship program and teaching of residents and medical students, and administrative operations for the division. The position will be involved with inpatient and/or outpatient clinical care, teaching, and clinical and research efforts by:
- Collaborating with other Rheumatology physicians in the division;
- Participating in the education and training of medical students and residents;
- Supporting the research mission of the department and university through:
a) Facilitating reasonable and appropriate access to patients by
b) Assisting when requested with collection of research data including
biological specimens and
c) Providing information and education on on-going research studies to
potentially eligible research subjects.
The selected candidate for the position must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License. Required or preferred board certification/eligibility statement. Required or preferred minimum years of clinical experience or years post residency statement.

Requiring applicants to have translational research expertise in rheumatology and strong education background.
Preferred applicants will possess state preferred credentials such as, an advanced fellowship in Rheumatology and demonstrate state preferred knowledge or skills such as, excellent communication and interpesonal skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department.
