Using a variety of complex stationary and mobile radiation producing
equipment takes radiographs to demonstrate various portions of the
human body on s-ray film and fluoroscopic screen for diagnostic
purposes as directed by a physician followed by well established
methods and procedures.

Able to perform fluoroscopic studies when needed which include: upper
GI series, Peg tube examinations, barium enemas, small bowel studies,
swallowing functions and video swallows.
Mixes all barium according to the prescription of the Department of
Radiology for administration to patients for visualization of internal
structures, which are studied by the above s-ray examinations.
Able to perform all studies including, but not limited to:
hysterosalpingograms, cystograms, cholangiograms, myleograms,
venograms, and arthrograms.
Prepares all trays, checks for missing or damaged instruments.
Identifies the instruments and contrast media which are utilized for
the above examinations.
Responsible for sterile technique for certain procedures.
Ensures all patients entering the Diagnostic and Fluoroscopic sections
are treated with the utmost dignity, respect and compassion.
Greets all patients and identifies oneself.
Follows department policy for correct identification of patient
prior to exam.
Addresses patient by name and explains the examinations/procedures
to the patient to alleviate any fears.
Identifies patient if there will be a waiting period and provides
comfort when necessary, i.e. blanket, reading material.
Operates computer system (Meditech) for patient date entry and
retrieval, i.e., type of examination and status of examination.
Ensures hospital policies are followed within the Department of
Radiology.
Requests for overtime are justified and pre-approved; paperwork for
overtime must be filled out.
Department problems are documented and reported in the proper
fashion by using the chain of command. Follow-up done if necessary.
Problem investigation forms are addressed properly and are examined
appropriately.
Attendance and participation is required at monthly staff meetings.
Responsible for clean and orderly work area.
Responsible for overall cleanliness of the radiographic rooms and
equipment in order to avoid the spread of infectious disease or
micro-organisms.
Re-stocks room with appropriate supplies when necessary.
Checks emergency drug boxes routinely and restores all outdated
meds.
Restores all used meds ASAP.
Checks dates on all contrast material, sterile supplies and IV
solutions before using.
Routinely empties laundry daily in area where assigned to prevent
spread of disease or infection.
Patient Care Directly responsible for patient care during 80% of all
examinations performed in all general radiographic rooms
Reviews request, physician note or chart to ensure appropriate study
is performed.
Obtains adequate medical history from patient and/or chart.
Obtains and completes a checklist for each patient receiving IV
contrast media.
Provides Radiologists with diagnostic quality images.
Responsible for checking the diagnosis of each patient and
evaluating their condition and age in order to adjust the technical
factors for radiation exposure, which will lead to a properly exposed
radiograph.
Carefully assists patient onto the radiographic table.
Exercises independent judgment when special attention must be given
to patients with certain types of fractures.
Seeks a radiologist s advice if there is a question of radiation
protection being maintained with the continuation of an exam.
Always minimizes exposure with particular emphasis on pregnant
patients and follows the Pregnancy policy for these patients while in
the Department of Radiology.
Responsible for reminding physicians to receive Informed Consent
Forms signed before certain radiographic examinations.
Loads the correct contrast media for injection and keeps contrast
vial with syringe until study is completed.
Responsible for calling: Fire (Code Red) Tap 2222; report area of
fire and pull lever down on fire alarm;
Cardiac Arrest (Code Blue) Tap 2222; report floor, room or
location of cardiac arrest. Security-Tap 4444
Maintains department records in accordance with department policy.
Prepares all requisitions with appropriate patient information, i.e.
History, contrast media: 50ml 0r 100ml, gastrograffin.
Completes all tracking requirements of requisitions in Meditech
system.
Scan ALL documents into PAC's, i.e. Requisition, history forms,
doctor notes, referrals, authorizations.
Assists in training of new employees.
Reviews the various routine procedures and protocols when necessary.
Assist with the new employee orientation and makes that person feel
comfortable and welcome.
Must aid in covering the department if an emergency situation occurs.
This assignment would be made by a supervisor.
Maintains department records in accordance with department policy.
1. Prepares film jacket with appropriate information.
2. Bar codes study in RSM system.
3. Documents the back of all requests with all pertinent information,
i.e., contrast medai (ionic/non-ionic: 50 ml or
100 ml).

Maintains knowledge of any practices proper radiation safety
techniques to reduce radiation exposure to self, patients and the
public, according to ALARA regulations.
Responsible for wearing a film badge to monitor possible radiation
exposure as provided and changing film badge monthly.
