Performs a variety of technical procedures that requires skill,
independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the use of
diagnostic ultrasound equipment for subsequent evaluation and
treatment by attending physician. The purpose is delivery of quality

-Knowledge of PAC's system
-Demonstrates skill/knowledge in the use of all standard ultrasound
equipment and a solid foundation in ultrasound theory
-Operates all ultrasound equipment and can select and modify technical
factors as needed
-Demonstrates competence in all areas of the ultrasound positioning,
physiology procedures, preparation and technical factors
Provides age specific competent care to population served in
-Explains the procedure in order to facilitate cooperation and
alleviate patient anxiety
-Clearly explains proper breathing instructions to patient as well as
repositioning instructions
-Demonstrates skills/knowledge necessary to assure assessment
treatment and care is appropriate to the age of the patients served
-Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences
-Demonstrates ability to prevent, recognize and report abuse
Complies with organizational and departmental policy and procedure in
regards to patient safety standards
-Examines patient identification before exam begins
-Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting, moving, transporting
patients or objects
-Shows concern for pateint comfort during procedure
-Maintains order and cleanliness in the ultrasound labs
-Functions calmly and efficiently in an emergency sitaution so that
the patient's immediate needs are addressed and met.
Maintains good body mechanics when positioning patient
-Recognizes the potential for mobility loss (geriatrics)
-Allows extra time for position changes with the geriatric patient
-Positions him/her self at eye level with child
-Recognizes the potential for hearing loss/vision loss, in some age
categories, and makes appropriate environmental adjustments
-Assists patient to be as comfortable as possible on the table during
all procedures (i.e., kneepads, armrest, security belts, additional

-Demonstrates ability to accurately use hospital computer and printer
-Have understanding of filing and reporting system
-Knowledge/ability to use Vision Radiology
-Recognizes special needs/concerns of populations served and adjusts
communication accordingly, i.e., language barrier, diminished hearing,
concrete terms, etc.
Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
