Summary of Position

The University of New Hampshire Center for Acoustics Research and Education ( CARE ) of the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space ( EOS ) invites applications at the rank of Assistant Research Professor in the area of acoustic signal processing. The successful applicant can expect to interact with faculty from the natural sciences and engineering, as well as the social sciences and humanities to address signal processing challenges related to basic and applied acoustics research. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of research demonstrating outstanding potential for establishing his or her own independent research program and to raise his/her salary from external grants, be a proven programmatic and organizational leader, and an early career scientist with international connections and diverse perspectives. While primarily a research appointment, graduate level teaching and research interaction with diverse students is encouraged. Demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students as well as community groups of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, disability and ethnic backgrounds.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering with at least one year of post-doctoral experience and demonstrated capability to acquire external funding and lead a scientific research program. EOS is largely a soft money research institution and the candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program and to raise his/her salary from external grants. While primarily a research appointment, graduate level teaching and research interaction with students is encouraged.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Statistical signal processing, detection/ classification techniques, and knowledge in machine learning is a plus.
