JOB DESCRIPTION The Corporate Safety Director will lead and manage all safety related functions and activities across the company including developing safety teammates, policies and procedures, leading all safety-related committees and coordinating safety activities with all projects and departments. The Corporate Safety Director will have a thorough understanding of the health and safety regulatory process and be responsible for determining the application of and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Further, the Corporate Safety Director is responsible for budgetary and strategic oversight for company-wide safety activities. This position directly supervises all safety personnel. Essential Functions Create and lead strategic safety initiatives Create and maintain a safety culture with active teammate involvement Assess, lead and manage all safety teammates including assigning tasks, areas of responsibility and performance requirements to develop direct reports Mentor and coach direct reports Set developmental goals and monitor progress with direct reports Establish procedures for communication, decision-making, and issue-resolution for direct reports Develop, implement, perform, or arrange all training programs in support of health and safety needs Interview and assess the skills of prospective safety employees. Hire, develop and promote qualified safety teammates Influence and work with project teams and the executive team to increase safety awareness and knowledge Share best practices between project teams and company-wide Maintain positive relationships with regulatory, subcontractor, and other peer safety professionals Implement health and safety programs and procedures, including the development of policies and procedures Ensure safety policies are in keeping with OSHA, other safety regulations and company initiatives including federal, state, and municipal safety standards Ensure the company s safety policies and procedures are being applied consistently across all projects Proactively investigate unsafe acts and determine appropriate disciplinary procedures, corrective actions and necessary follow up Establish the Safety department as a resource for project Teams Set safety inspection criteria and expectations; analyze data and identify trends in performance and incidents Ensure that root cause analysis of near miss incidents or accidents are understood and proactively drive corrective actions quickly Maintain knowledge of industry trends and consensus standards Evaluate, develop, and implement internal and external safety training materials/courses Evaluate the status of supervisory teammates completion of required training Develop and execute the department s annual work plan based on the Company s Strategic Plan Create and maintain annual budget for the department Chair and facilitate Safety Steering Committee Additional duties as assigned Core Competencies Strong analytical and critical thinker who can research to define and solve problems quickly Ability to lead emergency or crisis conditions Strong team player with a positive attitude Adapts to changes in the work environment Follows instructions, responds to executive direction Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and shall be professional and respectful Strong commitment to safety, the team environment, customer satisfaction and quality control Excellent time management and prioritization skills Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment Supervisory Responsibility This position is responsible for the oversight of other teammates Position Type This is a full-time, non-exempt position Travel Travel is limited and primarily local to jobsite locations in the Northeast Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related degree 10 years of experience in construction safety, in multiple states, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred, or CHST or equivalent safety designation OSHA 500 Instructor Certification preferred First Aid and CPR Certifications Safety Train-the-Trainer Certification Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plant construction, along with industrial and fabrication construction Competent person status in the following areas: excavation, confined space, fall protection Strong management and leadership skills Expert working knowledge and experience with health and safety standards and regulations Strong problem-solving skills Excellent written verbal communication skills, along with the ability to interact with all levels of management and teammates Self-motivated and strong organizational skills Advanced computer skills Comfortable in a fast paced and growing environment Work Environment/Physical Demands This role requires the ability to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, along with the ability to navigate and work in a variety of settings This role requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and regularly adjust heavy objects This role must maintain safety procedures at all times to avoid injury Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
