### Summary
These positions are located within the Nutrition and Food Service at
the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. The primary duties of
the Food Service Worker position are to perform a variety of duties
that are primarily concerned with food service or food preparation,
or a combination of both.

### Responsibilities
- Sets up and replenishes food service counters and steam tables
with hot and cold foods;
- Serves food cafeteria style;
- Prepares service stands by setting up condiments, silverware,
and glassware for table service;
- Sets tables;
- Serves tables by placing food and beverages on tables;
- Delivers trays to patients' bed side.
- Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving;
- Makes coffee, tea and other beverages;
- Makes fruit and vegetable salads;
- Cleans manual and electrical utensils;
- Disposes of waste;
- Washes dishes, pots, and pans;
- Cleans dishwashing machine after use;
- Unloads supply trucks and places supplies in proper storage
area;
- Cleans kitchen equipment, dining and storage areas, office,
hallways, and latrines;
- Waxes and buffs floors;
- Maintains garbage collection areas; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Work Schedule:** 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
and every other weekend

### Qualifications
**PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:** The work of this position
requires light to moderate physical effort with continuous standing
and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and
bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds
unassisted. May be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring
and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts
and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. May also
be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment.
The work of this position is performed in kitchen areas where the
steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause
uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well
lighted but is usually noisy from food service activities, and there
is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been
dropped. The person in this position is regularly exposed to hot
liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme
temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing
units. Required to wear protective shoes and gloves or other items
required by food handling guides.

**Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:**
Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per
pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served
