Corporate Risk

Wells Fargo's Risk Management is organized along three lines of defense, each of which has distinct objectives and responsibilities. This integrated risk management approach is built on strong relationships and willing partnerships it promotes greater coordination and communication among the three lines, and strengthens independent oversight by both Corporate Risk and independent assurance by Wells Fargo Audit Services. Wells Fargo views risk management as a strategic priority using sophisticated models, tools, and analytics to support our customers and to monitor and manage our business each day. We look at the risk and reward relationship in every deal that we do and in every decision that we make. We look across the spectrum to understand risks and how they interrelate, both in the analytics we use and in the way our risk managers work together. We take an enterprise-wide view of current and emerging risks, advising senior leaders and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple Wells Fargo lines of business, and take appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the firm.

Operational Risk Group

The Operational Risk Group oversees the management of operational risk exposures and the quality of operational risk management practices across the company. The group performs oversight for risk types that are essential for a comprehensive view of operational risk. As an independent risk management function, the Operational Risk Group works with teams across Corporate Risk, with front-line partners in the businesses and risk-generating functions, and with Wells Fargo Audit Services. Together, as three lines of defense, we are furthering company-wide consistency in operational risk management practices and simplifying risk management processes enabling us to focus on what s most important: protecting and serving our customers to help them succeed financially.

The Role

The Operational Risk Loss and Capital Analysis (ORLCA) team has an opportunity for a new leadership position to define, drive and implement strategic analytic objectives for the team that lead to more holistic understanding and usage of Loss & Capital Analysis outputs. This position will be responsible for defining and driving collaborative efforts across the firm, including:

  • Ensuring plans for strategic analytic foundations are developed, communicated clearly to key partners, and stakeholders
  • Developing a high functioning team that coordinates effectively within LCA teams and across Operational Risk and the enterprise
  • Developing and implementing repeatable, thorough, and credible processes
  • Ensuring LCA processes and outputs are used as a tools for risk management
    • LCA are integrated with other Operational Risk Management Capabilities
    • Capital execution plans are integrated with Model, Legal, Treasury
    • Op Risk Events and other LCA are coordinated with Operational Risk Business Oversight teams and Analytics & Insight teams
    • Effective alignment of Strategic Enterprise Risk Functions (Risk Identification, New Business Initiatives, Issues Management, Risk Appetite) with LCA processes and outputs

This position will report to the Head of Operational Risk Loss & Capital Analysis. This position will also work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, including senior management from all three lines of defense, and meet with representatives from the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 6+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
  • 7+ years of management experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Regulatory Capital, CCAR/DFAST, Operational Loss experience/expertise in Financial Services firms
  • Operational Risk experience/expertise
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytics and quantitative models experience
  • Regulatory experience (working directly for/with the FRB or OCC)
  • Experience developing transparent and traceable steps through robust documentation and planning
  • Experience with large Financial Services governance, evidencing review & challenge and active Front Line business engagement
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership and regulatory agencies
